Full course description

Welcome to Tools for Problem Solving! The usual responsibilities of an engineer or manager include problem solving and/or process troubleshooting. Using established and logical techniques can improve problem-solving skills. Becoming better problem solvers allows us to become more effective engineers or managers and increases our value to an organization. Effective problem solving requires an organized approach, knowledgeable problem solvers, teamwork and the appropriate tools. There are a number of recognized approaches in use today. “Tools for Problem Solving—Getting to the Root Cause(s)” focuses on the simple tools of problem solving. Getting to the root cause instead of just treating symptoms is the goal of effective problem solving. The eight simple tools presented in this course are often overlooked or not used as we ‘jump’ to conclusions about a problem solution, or reach for more ‘exotic’ tools! “Tools for Problem Solving—Getting to the Root Cause(s)” is intended to provide practical information that will enable you and your organization develop and implement an effective approach to problem solving that helps you.

At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Be able to more clearly define problems

  • Know and use Eight Simple Tools of Problem Solving
  • Be able to get to the Root Cause to implement real problem solutions
