The technology of state High Accuracy Reference Networks (HARNs) and Continuous Operating Reference Stations (CORS) will be described. The method of establishing 'GPS Derived Orthometric Heights' will be covered in detail. A description of the Russian GLONASS system and the new European GALILEO system will conclude the seminar. This course should be of interest to those who practice surveying but also those who work in the civil engineering field, including county engineers, public works officials, transportation engineers, DOT personnel, federal employees, contractors and consultants.
At the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Describe the principles and technology behind High Accuracy Reference Networks (HARNs) and Continuous Operating Reference Stations (CORS).
- Explain the process of establishing GPS Derived Orthometric Heights.
- Compare the Russian GLONASS system and the European GALILEO system in the context of GPS surveying.
- Evaluate the applications and limitations of GIS receivers in surveying.
