Full course description
This course will explore the causes behind the pincushion effect, which include misunderstanding of surveying rules and laws, and attempt to point to solutions found in case of law and common sense. No set of rules will ever be able to cover surveying situation. Even our Standards of Practice recognize that there must be room for professional judgement. The purpose of this course is to show the other side of the coin, if you will, to the boundary determination survey problem. This course should be of interest to surveyors, engineers and other professionals working with them.
At the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Identify the causes of the pincushion effect, including misunderstandings of surveying rules and laws.
- Analyze case studies to understand how common sense and legal solutions can address the pincushion effect.
- Evaluate the role of professional judgment in boundary determination surveys.
- Develop strategies to mitigate the pincushion effect in surveying practices.
