Full course description

General Lighting Design addresses issues essential to the design of artificial illumination systems. Part 2: Lighting design philosophy; Light sources and Fixtures; an outdoor design example; special applications. It is strongly recommended that both parts be taken consecutively. The course should be beneficial to Architects, Consulting Engineers, Plant Engineers, Technicians, Sales and Manufacturers Representatives, Contractors, and others who are concerned with the design, installation, operation, and/or maintenance of illumination systems.

At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Explain the fundamental principles of lighting design philosophy and their application in creating effective artificial illumination systems.
  2. Identify various light sources and fixtures, and understand their specific uses and characteristics in different lighting scenarios.
  3. Apply lighting design techniques to develop an outdoor lighting plan, considering factors such as aesthetics, functionality, and safety.
  4. Evaluate special applications of lighting design and their impact on the overall performance and efficiency of illumination systems in various settings.
